1. Shipping

1. From the moment we announced the happening of the Cape to St Helena 2018, AW Ship Management Ltd (“AWS”) of London, UK, which manages the MV Helena, have made it clear that they would like to encourage participation in the event and ensure that shipping costs do not stand as a barrier to entries. To that end they have discounted their freight charges for shipping back to Cape Town to a fraction of the normal cost, namely: [table id=1 /]

The charge for multihulls is the same as monohulls i.e. based on LOA. LOA must include bowsprit.

2. 2. AWS have also agreed:
      1. to provide, free of charge, a 1x 20’ GP container for the shipment of racegoer’s effects, equipment etc. to St Helena and back to Cape Town, the shipment costs of which will also be free of charge; and
      2. to carry empty cradles from Cape Town to St Helena, free of charge. Details relating to the delivery of cradles and the shipping of goods in the container will be published at a later date.
   3. We are greatly indebted to AWS for their generosity.

2. 2. AWS will require the following information in respect of boats to be shipped:
      1 Dimensions of the cradle and whether it can collapse
      2 Name of the boat
      3 Type of boat
      4 Dimensions of the boat (length/width/height)
      5 Can the mast be removed/collapsed
      6 Weight of the boat

2. As in the past, all boats will be discharged at Cape Town into the water and the cradles landed on the quayside. The cradles will have to be removed immediately from the quayside when landed.
3. AWS is still working on their shipping schedule, which needs to be approved by the St Helena government, and will notify us when complete. We will immediately publish the schedule.

2. Appointment of Clearing and Forwarding Agent.

AWS have nominated RNC Ship Agency Services, Cape Town, as the forwarding and clearing agent to be used to attend to all the export/import documentation which must be submitted to Customs and to the Port Authorities. We have written to the firm to establish their rates and will publish these as soon as they are to hand.

3. 3. Flights
      1. SA Airlink now operates a regular weekly flight between Johannesburg and St Helena. Attached is the current schedule for the period: December 2018 toApril 2019, which schedule is apparently updated on a rolling basis, week by week. It would be best to consult the airline direct for up to date schedules,via their website “www.flyAirlink.com”.
      2. We have approached SA Airlink to sponsor the event, inter alia, by way of discounted fares for competitors, their families and friends. We have also enquired about the possibility of putting on an additional flight, possibly direct to Cape Town, if there is sufficient demand. We will publish the outcome of our approach as soon as it is known.
   4. SAMSA Registration and Rating Certificates
      1. Competitors are reminded that in terms of the relevant legislation, boats going foreign must be registered with SAMSA. This can be done with SAMSA direct but the Registrar of Ships has requested that this rather be done via the South African Sailing office as this will expedite matters. Further information can also be obtained from the RCYC Sailing Office at sailing@RCYC.co.za.
      2. Information relating to rating certificates can also be obtained from the sailing office
      3. Having regard to the short time available before the start, competitors are urged to attend to this without delay, to avoid disappointment.
   5. Please enter early

Competitors are requested please to submit their entries as soon as possible, to facilitate arrangements. This is particularly important from the point of view of giving us leverage in connection with flights, et cetera.
