SAMSA Checklist

If the vessels are to be surveyed by SAMSA there is a requirement for a pre-registration survey and the fee for this survey is listed below.

Ownership requirements are:

  1. A  South African Citizen or Permanent Resident
  2. A body corporate established in terms of a law of the Republic with a place of business in the Republic
  3. A trust in which –
    • The majority of trustees having the controlling power at any given time are South African nationals referred to in paragraphs (a) and (b); and
    • A majority of the beneficial interests are held by such South African nationals; and
    • The Government of the Republic

Hereto attach the following:

  • Application for Registration
  • Declaration of Ownership and Nationality
  • Certified copy of the Deletion Certificate from the foreign register (if coming from a foreign register)
  • Builder’s certificate  (if no Builder’s Certificate is available then the owner is to make a statement which is to contain the following information Name of Vessel, any previous names, Where and when the vessel was built, Name and Address of the Builder, Overall length of the vessel, breadth of the Vessel, depth of the vessel, and the material of the hull.)
  • 3 postcard size colour photographs each showing a full and clear view of the bow, side and stern of the vessel (photos are also required to be emailed)
  • Safety survey report
  • Hull survey report
  • Radio station license (a copy) issued by ICASA
  • EPIRB Test report
  • EPIRB Registration to the MRCC
  • Memorandum and articles of association / Memorandum of Incorporation
  • Directors resolution
If owned by a CC:
  • Certified copy of each member’s ID Document
If owned by a Trust:
  • Statement of Nationality of each Beneficiary and description of each person’s beneficial interest in the Trust.
If owned by an individual:
  • R  2075.00            Pre-Registration survey fee
  • R    975.00            Issue of the Carving and Marking Note
  • R    120.00            For the issue of the Local General Safety Certificate on the survey done by the SAMSA appointed SA Sailing Surveyor or registered vessels.

This excludes all other survey fees and levies.  Levies are not applicable to pleasure vessels.

If owned by a Trust:
  • Statement of Nationality of each Beneficiary and description of each person’s beneficial interest in the Trust.
If owned by an individual:
  • R975.00               Renewal fee
  • R120.00                Issue of the LGSC
